Turnover in service industries grew by 3.5 per cent in June 2024

According to Statistics Finland, working day adjusted turnover in service industries grew by 3.5 per cent in June 2024 from June 2023. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, grew by 0.7 per cent over the same period. In May 2024, turnover grew by 0.8 per cent and volume fell by 1.5 per cent. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

Turnover growing in service industries

In service industries, growth in June 2024 was strongest in information and communication activities, where turnover rose by 5.9 per cent and volume by 6.1 per cent from June 2023. Working day adjusted turnover in professional, scientific and technical activities was 4.5 per cent higher than in June 2023. At the same time, the volume of the industry nevertheless contracted by 0.5 per cent.

In other main service industries, development was more subdued than average in service industries. In June 2024, the working day adjusted turnover of real estate activities rose by 3.0 per cent, while the volume of the industry contracted by 0.2 per cent from June 2023. Working day adjusted turnover in accommodation and food service activities rose by 2.9 per cent from June 2023, while volume went down by 0.5 per cent. Turnover and volume in transportation and storage were growing in June 2024. Working day adjusted turnover in the industry rose by 2.0 per cent and volume by 0.2 per cent.

The development was weakest in administrative and support service activities and in arts, entertainment and recreation activities. In administrative and support service activities, working day adjusted turnover went down by 0.4 per cent in June 2024, while volume was clearly falling by 4.1 per cent over the same period. In the industry of arts, entertainment and recreation, working day adjusted turnover fell by 3.1 per cent in June 2024.

Turnover and volume growing from the previous month

Seasonally adjusted turnover in service industries rose by 1.4 per cent in June 2024 compared to May. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, went up by 0.9 per cent over the same period. In May 2024, turnover rose by 0.3 per cent and volume by 0.1 per cent from April.
