Turnover in service industries grew by 1.6 per cent in October 2024

According to Statistics Finland, working day adjusted turnover in service industries grew by 1.6 per cent in October 2024 from October 2023. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, fell by 0.2 per cent over the same period. In September 2024, turnover grew by 0.6 per cent and volume fell by 1.5 per cent. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

Turnover growing in service industries

In service industries, growth in October 2024 was strongest in information and communication, where turnover strengthened by 5.0 per cent and volume by 3.0 per cent from October 2023. Working day adjusted turnover in professional, scientific and technical activities grew by 2.7 per cent and in real estate activities by 2.3 per cent in October 2024. In the corresponding period, the volumes of the industries remained on level with October 2023.

Among the main service industries, working day adjusted turnover grew in October 2024 by 0.9 per cent in administrative and support service activities and by 0.3 per cent in transportation and storage. Over the same period, the volume of administrative and support service activities fell by 2.9 per cent, while the volume of transportation and storage decreased by 0.9 per cent.

Among the main service industries, development was weakest in October 2024 in accommodation and food service activities, where turnover fell by 1.1 per cent while the volume of the industry contracted by 3.8 per cent from October 2023. The working day adjusted turnover of other service activities went down by 0.4 per cent from October 2023. Turnover in arts, entertainment and recreation fell slightly, by 0.2 per cent from October 2023.

Turnover and volume growing from the previous month

Seasonally adjusted turnover in service industries rose by 0.7 per cent in October 2024 compared to September. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, went up by 0.4 per cent over the same period. In September 2024, turnover decreased by 2.6 per cent and volume by 2.2 per cent from August.
