Use of natural gas and fuel oil continued to fall in 2024
release | Energy consumption in households 2024According to Statistics Finland's data, electricity consumption in households amounted to good 62 TWh in 2024. Consumption fell by over one terawatt hour from the year before for the third year in a row. The use of fuel oil and natural gas continued to fall.

Key selections
- Close on 41 TWh of energy was used on heating residential spaces. Consumption fell by three per cent from the previous year. The share of energy consumption in households was 65 per cent.
- The change in heating modes continued at a slower rate than in the crisis years 2022 to 2023. The consumption of light fuel oil went down by 15 per cent and that of natural gas by 22 per cent from the previous year.
- The share of energy produced by heat pump solutions in heating of residential spaces remained on level with the previous year.
- Heat pump solutions have become more common in blocks of flats. Heat pump energy for blocks of flats grew by 27 per cent from the previous year.
- Electricity consumption in households rose by around 200 GWh from 2023 to 2024. The use of heat pumps increased consumption.
