release | Support for learning 2024According to Statistics Finland, an increasing number of comprehensive school pupils received support for learning in 2024. Intensified support was received by 88,900, or 16 per cent of comprehensive school pupils and special support by 57,000, or 10 per cent of comprehensive school pupils. More pupils than before received intensified support, while the number of pupils having received special support went down slightly. The combined share of support grew by 0.8 percentage points from the previous year.

- For both intensified and special support, the majority of the pupils receiving it were boys. For intensified support, the share of boys was 61 per cent and for special support 69 per cent. Fifty-one per cent of all comprehensive school pupils were boys in 2024.
- The share of pupils receiving all education in a special group or class of all pupils having received special support grew.
- The shares of intensified support grew in all regions. The shares of special support remained on level with the previous year in nearly all regions.
- Intensified or special support was received by 17 per cent of pupils in pre-primary education provided in connection with early childhood education and care. Seventy per cent of them were boys.
- Twelve per cent of students in vocational education leading to a qualification received special support.
