Turnover in service industries grew by 3.9 per cent in January 2025

According to Statistics Finland, working day adjusted turnover in service industries grew by 3.9 per cent in January 2025 from January 2024. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, grew by 2.0 per cent over the same period. In December 2024, turnover grew of 4.7 per cent and volume correspondingly rose by 1.9 per cent. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

Turnover growing in service industries

In January 2025, growth in service industries was strongest in professional, scientific and technical activities, where working day adjusted turnover went up by 7.4 per cent from January 2024. Over the same period, the volume of the industry rose by 2.6 per cent. Working day adjusted turnover in information and communication grew by 5.4 per cent from January 2024. At the same time, the 4.8 per cent rise in the volume of the industry was fastest among service industries. The working day adjusted turnover of other service activities went up by 4.6 per cent from January 2024.

In other main service industries, development was more subdued than average in service industries. In January 2025, working day adjusted turnover in real estate activities grew by 3.5 per cent and volume by 1.2 per cent. Turnover growth in the industry of arts, entertainment and recreation was 3.2 per cent higher than in January 2024. In administrative and support service activities, working day adjusted turnover grew by 2.2 per cent in January 2025 from January 2024, while the volume of the industry went up slightly, being 0.1 per cent higher than in the comparison period one year ago.

Working day adjusted turnover in transportation and storage grew by 1.7 per cent in January 2025 and volume by 1.5 per cent from January 2024. Working day adjusted turnover in accommodation and food service activities grew by 1.2 per cent in January 2025, while volume went down by 1.5 per cent over the corresponding period.

Turnover grew from the month before

Seasonally adjusted turnover in service industries rose by 0.5 per cent in January 2025 compared to December 2024. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, went up by 0.3 per cent over the same period. In December 2024, turnover rose by 1.8 per cent and volume by 0.8 per cent from November.
