Read more about the changeAccording to Statistics Finland, there were 12,500 victims in the 13,000 domestic and intimate partner violence offences reported to the authorities in 2024, which is two per cent more than in the previous year. Altogether 9,500 of the victims were adults, which is 3.7 per cent more than in the year before. The number of underage victims was 3,000, which is three per cent fewer than in the previous year.

- In 2024 the number of victims of intimate partner violence by their spouse decreased by 2.4 per cent from the previous year.
- In all, 2.8 per cent less violence directed at children by their parents was reported than in the year before. Altogether 2,800 cases were recorded.
- Fifty-one per cent of underage victims were girls and 74 per cent of adult victims were women.
- Of the suspects of domestic and intimate partner violence, 75 per cent were men. If the victim is a minor, 66 per cent of suspects are men.
- The statistics include only cases known to the authorities, by no means all cases of domestic and intimate partner violence are reported to the authorities. The same person can be the victim of the same or a different offence more than once.
