Number of reported thefts from shops grew by 18.6 per cent in January to June 2025

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, a total of 255,900 offences against the Criminal Code were recorded by the police, customs and border guard in January to June 2025, which is 1.8 per cent more than one year earlier. The number of reported thefts from shops was close on 34,700, which is 18.6 per cent more than in the year before.

Key selections

  • A total of 48 offences against life were reported in January to June 2025, which is four more than in 2024.
  • The legislation on sexual offences was amended on 1 January 2023.
  • Altogether 627 cases of sexual harassment referred to in the new legislation were reported, which is 81 fewer than in January to June 2024. Of the acts, 205 were committed on the Internet.
  • Altogether 736 reports were made about dissemination or possession of a sexually offensive image of a child or following a sexually offensive performance of a child, which is 228 more than in the previous year. Over 90 per cent of the acts were committed on the Internet.
