release | Air emission accounts 2023According to Statistics Finland, greenhouse gas emissions produced by Finnish residents decreased in 2023. Greenhouse gas emissions produced by Finnish residents in Finland and abroad amounted to 44.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂ eq.), eight per cent less than in the previous year. Emissions of impurities decreased by four to eight per cent from the previous year except for ammonia.

- Greenhouse gas emissions fell most in energy supply (2.9 million tonnes of CO₂ eq.) and manufacturing (0.9 million tonnes of CO₂ eq.).
- The biggest growth in greenhouse gas emissions was generated in air transport, where emissions increased by 0.6 million tonnes of CO₂ eq.
- Carbon dioxide emissions from biomass, which are not counted as greenhouse gas emissions, decreased by 1.6 per cent.
- Carbon monoxide emissions included in emissions of impurities fell by 3.8 per cent, or by 12,000 tonnes from the previous year.
