Nights spent by foreign tourists in Finland up by 11 per cent from the previous year in 2024

According to Statistics Finland, 22.7 million overnight stays were recorded at accommodation establishments in 2024. The number of nights spent by resident tourists was 16.3 million and that of nights spent by non-resident tourists 6.4 million. The total number of overnight stays was almost on level with the year before.

Key selections

  • The number of overnight stays of resident tourists fell by five per cent in 2024.
  • The number of nights spent by non-resident tourists went up by 11 per cent from the year before.
  • Compared to the previous year, overnight stays increased particularly in Uusimaa, where seven per cent more overnight stays were recorded in 2024.
  • The occupancy rate of hotel rooms was 53 per cent, which is on level with 2023. The average price of a hotel room was EUR 123, which is EUR four more than in the previous year.
  • The data of the accommodation statistics for 2024 are not fully comparable with earlier years, because some significant establishments revised their reporting starting from January 2024 and the type data of accommodation establishments were revised. Read more in the documentation.
