Consumption of fossil fuels and peat decreased by 5 per cent in 2024
reviewAccording to Statistics Finland’s preliminary data, total energy consumption in 2024 amounted to 1.29 million terajoules (TJ), which was two per cent less than in the previous year. Less fossil fuels were consumed than one year before, which was visible as a seven per cent fall in carbon dioxide emissions. Altogether 95 per cent of the electricity production was based on clean fossil-free energy in 2024. The consumption of natural gas rose by nine per cent as the Balticconnector gas pipeline resumed operation in April.
