Total energy consumption remained on level with the previous year in January to June 2025

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, total energy consumption in January to June amounted to 658 petajoules (PJ), which was nearly unchanged from one year before. The consumption of renewable energy went up by five per cent from the year before. The consumption of fossil fuels and peat decreased by five per cent. Total electricity consumption remained on level with the previous year.

  • The consumption of renewable energy totalled 301 petajoule (PJ) in January to June 2025, or 5 per cent more than one year earlier.
  • The combined consumption of fossil fuels and peat amounted to 184 PJ, or five per cent less than in the year before.
  • Total electricity consumption was 43 terawatt hours (TWh), which was the same as in January to June of last year.
  • Carbon dioxide emissions from the energy use of fuels amounted to 13 million tonnes, which was five per cent less than in the year before.
