Nearly one-half of establishments of cultural enterprises were located in Uusimaa in 2023

According to Statistics Finland, there were around 37,000 establishments of cultural enterprises in Finland in 2023. Nearly one-half of them were in Uusimaa. The number of cultural buildings was biggest in Uusimaa (302) and Southwest Finland (192). In Finland there were 2,081 cultural buildings classified by main purpose of use.

  • Cultural activities of municipalities spent, on average, EUR 169 per capita, which was EUR nine more than in the year before.      
  • The largest amounts of money were spent in Kainuu (EUR 208) and Päijät-Häme (EUR 207).
  • There were 711 public libraries in Finland in 2023. The number of libraries was highest in Uusimaa (119), Southwest Finland (75) and North Ostrobotnia (69).
  • There were a total of 371 cinema halls in Finland in 2023. The number of cinema halls was highest in Uusimaa (120).
