Number of persons burdened by housing costs decreased in 2024

According to Statistics Finland, 4.5 per cent of persons were burdened by housing costs in 2024. That was around 248,300 persons, close on 13 per cent fewer than in the previous year. At that time, the share of persons burdened by housing costs was 5.2 per cent. The net income share of housing costs remained unchanged, being 17.4 per cent.

  • In all, 4.5 per cent of persons living in private households were burdened by housing costs.
  • In 2024, altogether 14.8 per cent of the persons burdened by housing costs belonged to the lowest-income quintile. The share of persons decreased compared to 2021 to 2023.
  • The net income share of households' housing costs remained unchanged from 2023; the median was 17.4 per cent.
