Altogether 70 per cent of the population belonged to a family in 2025

According to Statistics Finland, there were 1,477,601 families in Finland at the end of 2025, which is 5,085 families more than in the year before. The share of persons belonging to a family in the population has remained unchanged. While in 1995 the commonest family type was a married couple with children, in 2025 the commonest family type was a married couple without children. The number of families formed by a cohabiting couple without children has grown steadily over the same period.
