Suspects of shoplifting most commonly aged 30 to 39
releaseAccording to Statistics Finland, a record number of cases of shoplifting were reported in 2025. They numbered 77,600, which is 23 per cent more than in the year before. The clearance rate of shoplifting cases was 67 per cent. The number of suspects of solved shoplifting cases was 57,300, which is 23.5 per cent more than in the year before. A good 60 per cent of the suspects were aged 25 to 49.
Key selections
In 2025, most of the suspects of solved shoplifting cases were aged 30 to 39. They numbered 16,900, which is 22.5 per cent more than in the year before.
The number of suspects of shoplifting aged under 15 was 3,900, which is 9.6 per cent more than in the previous year.
The number of suspects aged under 18 grew by nearly seven per cent. They numbered 6,300, which is still a good 2,300 fewer than in the record year 2010.
Measured in percentages, the number of suspects aged 50 to 59 grew most, by nearly 47 per cent.
Thirty per cent of the suspects were women. The share of girls among those aged under 15 was nearly 42 per cent, while among adults the share of women was 29 per cent.
