Statistics on offences and coercive measures 2026, 2nd quarter

Number of reported assaults grew by 11.8 per cent in January to June 2026

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, a total of 261,500 offences against the Criminal Code were recorded by the police, customs and border guard in January to June 2026, which is 0.2 per cent fewer than one year earlier. The number of reported assaults was 23,600, which is 11.8 per cent more than in the year before.

Key selections

  • According to preliminary data for January to June 2026, a total of 42 offences against life were reported, which is three fewer than in 2025.
  • Altogether 750 cases of sexual harassment were reported, which is 13.2 per cent more than in 2025. Of the acts, 270 were committed on the Internet.
  • A total of 741 reports were made about dissemination or possession of a sexually offensive image of a child or following a sexually offensive performance of a child, which is 33.4 per cent fewer than in the previous year. Over 90 per cent of the acts were committed on the Internet.
  • Offences committed on the Internet may in particular result in several offence reports.
