Finnish citizens’ greenhouse gas emissions and emissions of impurities decreased in 2024
releaseAccording to Statistics Finland, greenhouse gas emissions produced by Finnish residents decreased in 2024. Greenhouse gas emissions produced by Finnish residents in Finland and abroad amounted to 43 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂ eq.), four per cent less than in the previous year. Emissions of impurities decreased by 1 to 8 per cent from the previous year.

- The biggest sources of greenhouse gas emissions in Finland in 2024 were manufacturing, transportation and storage, and agriculture, forestry and fishing.
- Greenhouse gas emissions fell most in energy supply (1.4 million tonnes of CO₂ eq.) and manufacturing (0.6 million tonnes of CO₂ eq.).
- Carbon dioxide emissions from biomass, which are not counted as greenhouse gas emissions, decreased by 2.3 per cent.
- Emissions of impurities not included in greenhouse gas emissions fell from the previous year's level.
