Income distribution statistics: Changes in database tables

Date of change:

New database tables and database tables to be archived

  • Replaces archived table 128b - Income of household-dwelling units by age of reference person.
  • Also replaces archived tables 12dh - Households' income by household's life-cycle and 12ec - Households' income by number of adults and children.
  • Replaces archived table 11ng - Dwelling population dependent on basic social security and their income level by age, sex and household-dwelling unit's main income source.
  • The classification of the main income source was specified, the category “financial aid for students” was added and the classification of those without income into the category “sickness and disability” was corrected. The data are limited to the years 2010 to 2024 (in earlier tables to 2005 to 2023).
  • Replaces archived table 11wl - Dwelling population by income decile, main source of income of household-dwelling unit and age of person.
  • The age group of those aged at least 85, as well as data on personal main income items and the number of persons at risk of poverty were added to the table.
  • The classification of main income source was changed. A new income source “old-age pensions” replaces the previous income source “occupational pensions”. Due to technical changes in the classification there are some changes in the numbers.

In addition, the following tables are archived:

  • Table 128h - Income and income structure of household-dwelling units by level of education of reference person. Data on income by level of education are on the person level in Table 14k5 - Income level of dwelling population by income class, age, gender and education level.
  • Table 12ex - Distribution of households and persons by income decile and age of reference person, 1966-2023. Data on income levels by the age of the reference person until 1966 are presented in Table 12eb.
  • Table 12ei - Households' income structure by socioeconomic status, 1987-2023. Data on income levels by socio-economic group are presented in Table 12ci.

Other changes in database tables

  • • The Gini coefficients for personal disposable monetary income for age groups 18 to 64, 65 or over and 18 by sex were added to the table.
  • Data on children's at-risk-of-poverty rate, number of children and number of household-dwelling units at risk of poverty were added to the table.
  • Household-dwelling units having all members under 18 years were reclassified into the category "other".
  • The scholarship for qualified employees was removed from financial aid for students, in which item it was previously included.
  • The allowance on account of an infectious disease also concerns the year 2020, previously only from 2021 onwards.
  • Due to technical reasons, there are minor changes in the indicators for individuals with prolonged dependency on basic social security between 2005 and 2020.

The database tables are in Finnish, Swedish and English.

See all database tables of the statistics in the StatFin database. The database tables to be archived are available in the archive database.
