Index of wage and salary earnings: Indices were calculated based on wage and salary data in the Incomes Register for the first time

Date of change:

Information about the change

The indices for 2024 included in the index of wage and salary earnings have been calculated mainly based on the wage and salary data in the Incomes Register. The indices of the non-financial corporations sector, the central government sector and non-profit institutions serving households are based on the wage and salary data of the structure of earnings statistics, which use the Incomes Register as basic data. The indices of local government are still based on data from Statistics Finland's own data collection.

The Incomes Register data are total data, which means that they, in practice, contain all employers and wage and salary earners. Before, the wage and salary data collected from the non-financial corporations sector and non-profit institutions serving households were raised to the level of the population. The improvement in coverage is particularly big concerning enterprises with fewer than five employees, of which very few were previously included in the statistics.

The average earnings data published in connection with the index of wage and salary earnings have also been revised and are now based on the data in the Incomes Register. Thus, data on average earnings are not comparable with data from earlier years from the beginning of 2024 onwards. From 2024 onwards, average earnings describe the average earnings of all wage and salary earners better than before.
