Statistics Finland's Quality of Work Life Survey measures wage and salary earners' working conditions and well-being at work and changes in them. The data collection is implemented as a web inquiry. The survey has been conducted at five-year intervals since the 1970s, so the data collection forms an exceptionally long time series.
The results of the survey produce data that are available to all of us – and support decisions affecting society.

The inquiry is conducted as a web inquiry and it can be answered in Finnish, Swedish or English with a mobile device. An invitation to the inquiry is sent to the respondents by text message.
The inquiry is repeated every three weeks between September 2023 and January 2024 and the respondents change at each round. If you have received a text message from us, you can follow the instructions there. There is no need to prepare in advance for responding.
The target population consists of employed wage and salary earners aged 18 to 67. The respondents are drawn from the Labour Force Survey rounds of August to December 2023 and January 2024 among the respondents for whom an up-to-date telephone number can be found. The sample of the Labour Force Survey is drawn as a stratified random sample from Statistics Finland’s population database, which is based on the Central Population Register.
Persons drawn to the sample are informed of the coming survey at the end of the telephone interview or online responding to the Labour Force Survey.
Participation is a civil right. Your responses are utilised in research concerning working life, for different working life development programmes and in preparing decisions and legislation concerning us all. All citizens benefit from decisions on working life being based on researched information.
Quality of work life. Statistics on quality of work life describe the change in working conditions of wage and salary earners. They cover physical, psychological and social work environment factors. The data are collected and published around every five years.
No. The respondents have been selected to represent the population of Finland. You have been selected based on your age and area of residence. No one else can replace you. Your response is needed in order to obtain reliable data for the statistics concerning the population groups you represent.
Your responses are confidential. We never release your responses for administrative decision-making, investigation, surveillance, legal proceedings or similar purposes, such as to the Tax Administration or the Social Insurance Institution of Finland.
We never hand over or sell your contact information outside Statistics Finland.
The contact details of individual respondents are the address, email and telephone number
as well as corresponding information in the names of members of the same household. The data derive from the Population Information System and from those authorities from which data are obtained based on the Statistics Act. In addition, contact details are obtained from public sources, such as telephone operators.
Statistics Finland is also entitled to receive for surveys the contact information of persons who have a ban on direct marketing.
Your responses can be seen at Statistics Finland only by those employees who compile statistics based on the responses. Your data will be treated as strictly confidential and we will ensure your data protection at all stages of the production of the statistics. Every person employed by Statistics Finland has signed a pledge of secrecy.
We publish statistics in the manner that the responses of individual persons cannot be identified from the data.
