The data collection for the Leisure Survey was carried out in 2017 - 2018. It is an inquiry that examines the population's leisure activities and social participation, their development and participation of different population groups. The survey also produces information on the ratio between work and leisure, social relationships and importance attached to different spheres of life. The Leisure Survey has been conducted in 1977, 1981, 1991, 2002 and 2017.
The data for the leisure survey are collected with a self-filled web and paper questionnaire.
Every response improves the reliability of the data we collect. This way we ensure that the inquiry results and compiled statistics are of high quality and give a correct picture of the studied subject.
Statistics Finland sends the person selected to the survey sample a letter containing information about the survey and instructions on how to participate in it. There is no need to prepare in advance for the survey.

The Leisure Survey provides impartial information on how people perceive their everyday life and how they spend their free time.
This information is needed as a basis for decision-making and social debate. The information is used by researchers, the media, decision-makers, enterprises and corporations, as well as individual citizens.

All data collected for statistical purposes are confidential. When processing data, it is seen to that no person's privacy or business or professional secret are endangered. Every person employed by Statistics Finland has signed a pledge of secrecy.
In data collections directed at individuals, the grounds for processing personal data are Article
6, Paragraph 1, point e of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679, performing a task in the public interest.
If you have been selected as a respondent for a data collection, Statistics Finland will always contact you in advance by letter or email. This communication will explain what data will be collected and for what purpose the data will be used.
To make responding easier, the collected data can be supplemented with data available from administrative registers.
