Index of Wage and Salary Earnings and Index of Regular Earnings have been revised

The new base year for the Index of Wage and Salary Earnings as well as the Index of Regular Earnings is 2010, indicated by 100 in the revised indices. The most recent indices have been calculated for the first time with 2010 as the base year in the publication concerning the third quarter of 2012. The indices for 2012 are still preliminary.

In the revisions, the weight structure by wage and salary earner group has been changed to correspond with the weights of wage and salary sums according to the new base year. The weight structure of the 2010=100 index follows the national accounts wage and salary sum for 2010 applied to the wage and salary earner group distribution of the index.

The chaining point of the indices with old base years is the last quarter of 2011. Thus, as of the beginning of 2012, the development of old indices follows that of the 2010=100 index.
