General government EMU debt grew in the second quarter of 2007
General government EMU debt grew by approximately EUR 2 billion to EUR 63.2 billion in the second quarter of 2007 in consequence of increased central government debt. Central government bonds grew by EUR 3.5 billion and short-term money market instrument liabilities decreased by EUR 1.5 billion.
The debt of local government, that is, municipalities and joint municipal boards remained on level with the previous quarter. Local government debt, which mainly consists of long-term loans, amounted to EUR 8.9 billion in the second quarter of 2007.
