Retail trade sales grew by 0.2 per cent in January
According to Statistics Finland, retail trade sales increased by 0.2 per cent in January 2010 from January 2009. Over the same time period, the volume of sales fell by 0.9 per cent. In wholesale trade sales diminished by 1.4 per cent and in motor vehicle trade by 6.6 per cent. In total trade sales fell by 1.7 per cent in January.
In retail trade, sales for the whole of 2009 were down by 1.7 per cent on 2008. Sales fell by 17.9 per cent in wholesale trade and by 29.4 per cent in motor vehicle trade in 2009. In total trade sales were down by 15.1 per cent on the year before.

Revised accounting practice in motor vehicle trade
Turnover in new car sales has been recorded according to a revised accounting practice since data concerning April 2009. Motor car tax is no longer included in turnover as in the past. An estimation of the share of the motor car tax in the previous April-January period has been removed from the annual change shown for this April-January period.
