Overnight stays at accommodation establishments increased by 11 per cent in November

The total number of overnight stays at Finnish accommodation establishments was good 1.2 million in November 2010, which was 11 per cent up on one year previously. The number of recorded nights spent by domestic tourists at Finnish accommodation establishments in November 2010 was 900,000 nights, which was nearly 10 per cent higher than in November 2009. The number of nights spent by foreign tourists at Finnish accommodation establishments was 300,000 nights, which was 15 per cent higher than in November 2009. These figures are preliminary data from Statistics Finland's statistics on accommodation establishments and they have been collected from accommodation establishments with at least 10 rooms, cottages, or caravan pitches with electricity connection, and youth hostels.

Travelling from Russia to Finland became ever livelier and Russians were the biggest group of foreign visitors in November. They spent 84,000 nights at Finnish accommodation establishments. The number was 36 per cent higher than one year previously. Swedes came next with 33,000 nights spent, which was nearly 23 per cent more than twelve months earlier. German tourists came third with nearly 26,000 overnight stays at accommodation establishments, which was four per cent down from November 2009. Next were British tourists with good 20,000 nights spent and Estonians with nearly 17,000 nights. Overnight stays by Estonians increased by nearly 17 per cent from the previous year and those by British and French visitors by 16 per cent.
