Turnover in service industries grew by 1.6 per cent in November to January
Service industries generated 1.6 per cent more turnover in the November 2008 to January 2009 period than in the respective time period of the year before. The growth slowed down clearly, for in the previous three-month period that ended in October their turnover went up by 7.6 per cent. The economic downturn can be seen in service industries especially towards the end of the examination period when the development in turnover slows down or starts to decline in several activities. Services are here examined exclusive of trade and the data have been adjusted for working days by eliminating effects of calendar variations from them.
In the examined period turnover started to decline in transportation and storage activities where it was 3.4 per cent lower than twelve months earlier. In information and communication activities turnover went up by 3.9 per cent from one year back. In professional, scientific and technical activities turnover was 2.8 per cent higher in November-January than in the same time period of the previous year. Turnover in administrative and support service activities grew by 3.7 per cent year-on-year in November-January. Turnover grew fastest in arts, entertainment and recreation activities where it was 8.9 per cent higher in November-January than in the same time period of the year before. Real estate activities generated 7.0 per cent more turnover in the November to January period than in the same period one year earlier.
