Turnover in service industries increased by 6 per cent year-on-year in December to February

According to Statistics Finland, turnover in service industries grew by six per cent in December to February from the corresponding period of the year before. Of the industries, administrative and support service activities continued to grow by 9.5 per cent. The development of professional, scientific and technical activities slowed down slightly from the year before (+7.4%). The development of information and communication and transportation and storage activities improved most year-on-year. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

Administrative and support service activities were boosted most by employment activities (+17.4%) and renting and leasing activities (+13.3%). The growth in security and investigation activities slowed down further (+6.4%). In the period one year ago the industry grew by 14.7 per cent. Professional, scientific and technical activities were supported by the sub-industry other professional, scientific and technical activities (+14.2%) while research and development (-4.9%) restrained the development. In information and communication activities, most growth took place in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (+11.5%).

Transportation and storage activities grew by 3.5 per cent year-on-year. Water transport (+5.6%) boosted the industry most.

The main industry other service activities still developed slowly. Of its sub-industries, the turnover of repair of computers and personal and household goods decreased by 7.4 per cent.

Changes in the Tax Administration's self-assessed tax data have not so far had an effect on the data of turnover indices

The effects of the changes in the Tax Administration's self-assessed tax data have been analysed in Statistics Finland’s turnover indices. Based on the analyses, the changes have thus far not been found to have significant effects on enterprises’ VAT reporting in terms of statistics production.
