Cubic volume covered by granted building permits went up in January

In January 2010, building permits were granted for a total of 2.4 million cubic metres, which is 13 per cent more than one year ago.

The cubic volume of commercial and office buildings doubled from the previous year and the number of dwellings having received a building permit was over threefold compared with last year's January. In contrast, the cubic volume of building permits granted for industrial and warehouse buildings and public service buildings declined by good one third from one year before. The cubic volume of agricultural buildings also fell clearly.

The volume of newbuilding contracted by good 12 per cent in January

In January 2010 ongoing building production contracted by 12.2 per cent year-on-year.

The volume of residential buildings increased by 9.8 per cent from one year before. In residential building the volume of blocks of flats grew by one quarter. The volume of office buildings decreased the most, by nearly 60 per cent from one year previously.

The volume of other than residential building still contracted strongly. The fall was 25.8 per cent from January 2009.
