Cubic volume covered by granted building permits grew by 17 per cent in July
In July 2010, building permits were granted for a total of 1.8 million cubic metres, which is 17 per cent more than one year ago. This is indicated by Statistics Finland’s preliminary data from statistics on building and dwelling production.
Granted permits (moving annual total).
In July 2010, building permits were granted for 1,536 new dwellings, which is 23 per cent more than one year earlier. The number of permits granted for new detached houses more than doubled and that for residential blocks of flats grew by 14 per cent from one year back. The number of permits granted for detached houses also went up by 10 per cent.
Over the January to July period, the number of granted building permits grew by five per cent from the previous year. The number of permits granted for residential buildings went up by 55 per cent. The cubic volume covered by permits for commercial and office buildings went down by 24 per cent from the respective time period of the year before.
Volume of newbuilding went up by 24 per cent in July
In July 2010, the constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production grew by 24 per cent year-on-year. The volume of residential buildings increased most, by close on 72 per cent from one year before. The strong growth was due to the exceptionally low volume of residential building construction in 2009.
In residential building construction the volume of terraced houses particularly continued to grow strongly. Volumes have also gone up briskly in the construction of residential blocks of flats and detached houses starting from the early months of 2010 when compared with the respective months of the previous year.
The volume of construction of transport and communications buildings was also growing, up by nearly 47 per cent from one year back.
Compared with last year's July, the volume decreased most, by good 30 per cent in the construction of office buildings. The construction of industrial buildings fell by good 25 per cent and that of warehouse buildings by 24 per cent from twelve months back.
