Cubic volume covered by granted building permits grew by nearly 3 per cent year-on-year in July

In July 2012, building permits were granted for a total of 1.8
million cubic metres, which is 2.8 per cent more than one year
earlier. This is indicated by Statistics Finland’s
preliminary data from statistics on building and dwelling
production.

The cubic volume covered by permits for residential buildings fell by 10.5 per cent in July. The biggest decrease of 41.2 per cent was recorded in the cubic volume covered by permits for terraced houses. The cubic volume covered by permits for detached houses went down by 15.1 per cent. By contrast, the cubic volume covered by permits granted for residential blocks of flats grew by 11.0 per cent from one year back.
The cubic volume covered by permits granted for other than residential buildings was 11.9 per cent higher this July than in July 2011.
By contrast, the cubic volume covered by permits granted for commercial and office buildings grew by 77.1 per cent from one year back. The considerable growth was partly due to the low cubic volume covered by granted building permits during the comparison period.
The cubic volume covered by permits granted for industrial and warehouse buildings decreased by 18.6 per cent.
In July 2012, building permits were granted for 1,561 dwellings, which is 3.2 per cent less than one year earlier. The number of permits granted for dwellings in terraced houses fell most, by 31.8 per cent. The number of building permits granted for dwellings in blocks of flats grew by 17.7 per cent year-on-year in July.
The volume of newbuilding decreased in July by nearly 8 per cent from one year back
In July 2012, the constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production went down by 7.8 per cent year-on-year.
The volume of residential building construction contracted by 7.4 per cent from July 2011. The volume decreased for all types of buildings: detached houses by 8.5 per cent, terraced houses by 5.9 per cent and residential blocks of flats by 5.4 per cent.
In July the volume of construction of industrial and warehouse buildings diminished most, or by 26.8 per cent from one year ago. The volume of construction of commercial and office buildings decreased by 5.2 per cent. By contrast, the volume of public service building construction went up by 3.5 per cent.
The volume of other than residential building construction went down by 8.1 per cent from one year ago.
