Unemployment fell in July 2005

According to the Labour Force Survey of Statistics Finland, the number of unemployed persons was in July 197,000, i.e. 15,000 lower than one year previously. The rate of unemployment was 7.3 per cent, while it was 7.8 per cent one year before.

There were 2,494,000 employed in July 2005, i.e. almost same number than in the previous year. The employment rate stood at 70.7 per cent, while it was 70.6 per cent in July 2004. In the January to July period of 2005 the average number of employed persons was 2,397,000, which is 34,000 higher than in the corresponding period of the year before.
