Employment grew and unemployment fell in October 2005

According to the Labour Force Survey of Statistics Finland, the number of employed persons was in October 2,404,000, i.e. 55,000 higher than one year previously. The employment rate stood at 67.9 per cent, while it was 66.6 per cent in October 2004. In the January to October period of 2005 the average number of employed persons was 2,402,000, which is 34,000 higher than in the corresponding period of the year before.

There were 185,000 unemployed in October, i.e. 18,000 fewer than in the previous year. The rate of unemployment was 7.2 per cent, while it was 8.0 per cent one year before.
