Finland's preliminary population figure 5,425,056 at the end of November

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population at the end of November was 5,425,056. Over the January to November period, Finland's population increased by 23,800 persons, which is 1,000 lower than in the respective period of one year previously. The main reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad: the number of immigrants was 15,700 higher than that of emigrants. Natural population growth, or excess of births to deaths, was 8,100 persons.

According to the preliminary statistics for the January to November period, 28,500 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 12,800 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 1,050 higher and the number of emigrants 1,000 higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 7,150 of the immigrants and 8,900 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.

During the January to November period, 55,000 children were born, which is 350 children less than in the corresponding period of 2011. The number of deaths was 46,900, which is 700 higher than one year earlier.

According to the preliminary data, the number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 258,850 over the January to November period. Compared with the previous January to November period, the decrease was 1,450 migrations according to the municipal division of 2012.
