Finland's preliminary population figure 5,486,125 at the end of November
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population at the end of November was 5,486,125. Over the January to November period, Finland's population increased by 14,370 persons, which is 6,160 persons fewer than for the corresponding period of the year before. The main reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad: the number of immigrants was 10,970 higher than that of emigrants. Natural population growth, or excess of births to deaths, was 3,400 persons.
Population increase by month 2012–2015*
According to the preliminary statistics for the January to November period, 24,490 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 13,520 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 4,990 lower and the number of emigrants 850 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 6,630 of the immigrants and 9,320 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
During the January to November period, 50,810 children were born, which is 2,050 children fewer than in the corresponding period of 2014. The number of deaths was 47,410, which is 20 lower than one year earlier.
According to the preliminary data, the number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 253,760 over the January to November period. Compared with the previous January to November period, the increase was 5,240 migrations according to the municipal division of 2015.
