Finland's preliminary population figure 5,522,015 at the end of November
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population was 5,522,015 at the end of November. Our country's population increased by 8,885 persons during January-November. The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 14,574. The number of births was 5,689 lower than that of deaths.
Population increase by month 2014–2018*
During January-November, 43,786 children were born, which is 2,712 fewer than in the corresponding period in 2017. The number of deaths was 49,475, which is 495 higher than one year earlier.
According to the preliminary statistics for November, 29,616 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 15,042 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 7 higher and the number of emigrants 714 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 7,924 of the immigrants and 10,105 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
According to the preliminary data, the number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 267,169 during January-November. Compared with the corresponding period in 2017, the increase was 1,378 migrations according to the municipal division of 2018.
