Finland's preliminary population figure 5,548,097 at the end of October
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population was 5,548,097 at the end of October. Our country's population increased by 14,304 persons during January-October. The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 18,066. The number of births was 4,901 lower than that of deaths.
Population increase by month 2018–2021*
During January-October, 41,906 children were born, which is 2,717 higher than in the corresponding period in 2020. The number of deaths was 46,807, which is 998 higher than one year earlier.
According to the preliminary statistics for January-October, 28,144 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 10,078 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 806 higher and the number of emigrants 2,739 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 7,105 of the immigrants and 6,679 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
According to the preliminary data, the number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 260,025 during January-October. Compared with the corresponding period in 2020, the increase was 8,240 migrations according to the municipal division of 2021.
