Finland's preliminary population figure 5,550,066 at the end of February
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population was 5,550,066 at the end of February. Our country's population increased by 467 persons during January-February. The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 2,294. The number of births was 3,206 lower than that of deaths.
Population increase by month 2019–2022*
During January-February, 7,411 children were born, which is 471 fewer than in the corresponding period in 2021. The number of deaths was 10,617, which is 1,107 higher than one year earlier.
According to the preliminary statistics for January-February, 4,152 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 1,858 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 925 lower and the number of emigrants 257 higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 1,003 of the immigrants and 1,257 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
According to the preliminary data, the number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 39,956 during January-February. Compared with the corresponding period in 2021, the decrease was 440 migrations according to the municipal division of 2022.
