Output grew by 3.1 per cent in November

The volume of total output was 3.1 per cent greater in November 1999 than in November 1998. The rate of output growth was about the same as the average for the January to November period. The Monthly Indicator of Total Output of Statistics Finland indicates that output went up in all main industries of the national economy.

Output in manufacturing as calculated per working day increased by 3.4 per cent. In the wood and paper industry, output continued its growth and went up by almost 13 per cent. In the metal industry, output contracted by one half per cent because the manufacture of electrical goods decreased.

Output in construction grew by 7.5 per cent from November 1998. In transport, output increased by 4.9 per cent, in agriculture and forestry by 4.7 per cent and in trade by 3.1 per cent. Other services and government services increased by 1.6 per cent from the year before.

The Monthly Indicator of Total Output is based on twelve monthly series on different sectors of the economy. The series are summed up by weighting.
