Output grew by 6.6 per cent in December
The volume of total output was 6.6 per cent greater in December 1999 than in December 1998. The growth quickened from November when it was 3.4 per cent. The Monthly Indicator of Total Output of Statistics Finland indicates that, except for agriculture and forestry, output went up in all main industries of the national economy.
Output in manufacturing as calculated per working day increased by 16 per cent. The rapid growth is largely explained by a close on 22 per cent increase in the output of the wood and paper industry. In the electronics industry, too, output resumed a growth rate of good 40 per cent.
Output in construction grew by 6.8 per cent from December 1998. In transport, output increased by 3.7 per cent and in trade by 2.8 per cent. Other services and government services increased by 1.6 per cent. In agriculture and forestry, output remained at the previous year's level.
The Monthly Indicator of Total Output is based on twelve monthly series on different sectors of the economy. The series are summed up by weighting.
