Output grew by 4.6 per cent in January
The volume of total output was 4.6 per cent greater in January 2000 than in January 1999. In December 1999, output grew by 7.1 per cent from the previous year. The Monthly Indicator of Total Output of Statistics Finland indicates that output went up in all main industries of the national economy.
Output in construction increased by 11.5 per cent in January. Output in manufacturing as calculated per working day grew by 6.5 per cent, which is primarily attributable to the almost 18 per cent increase in the output of the electronics industry. Output in the wood and paper industry also continued to grow and was almost 10 per cent higher than the year before.
Output in agriculture and forestry went up by 5.6 per cent as a result of increased fellings. In transport, output grew by 4.8 per cent and in trade by 4.3 per cent. Other services and government services increased by 2 per cent.
The Monthly Indicator of Total Output is based on twelve monthly series on different sectors of the economy. The series are summed up by weighting.
