Output growth continued brisk in February

The volume of total output was 5.3 per cent greater in February 2000 than in February 1999. In January, output grew by 4.6 per cent from the previous year. The Monthly Indicator of Total Output of Statistics Finland indicates that output went up in all main industries of the national economy.

Output in construction increased by 11.5 per cent in February. Output in agriculture and forestry went up by 11.2 per cent as a result of increased fellings.

Boosted by the almost 12 per cent growth in the sales of motor vehicles, output in trade went up by 7.3 per cent. In transport, output increased by 6.8 per cent. Output in manufacturing as calculated per working day grew by 6.2 per cent, which was primarily attributable to the over
19 per cent increase in the output of the electronics industry. Other services and government services increased by 2 per cent.

The Monthly Indicator of Total Output is based on twelve monthly series on different sectors of the economy. The series are summed up by weighting.
