Industrial output grew by 11 per cent from the previous year in June
According to Statistics Finland, industrial output as calculated per working day grew by 11.0 per cent in the year to June. In the January to June period, output increased by 8.4 per cent from the year before.
With the exception of the textile and clothing industry, output increased in all main branches of the manufacturing industry. In the paper industry, output went up by almost 7 per cent in June. The output of wood products was up by only good 5 per cent from the previous year.
Output in the metal industry grew by over 18 per cent compared to June 1999. Output growth continued in all main branches of the metal industry. The manufacture of electrical equipment increased most, by nearly 27 per cent. Good 20 per cent more cars were manufactured than in last year's June.
Output in the chemical industry grew by almost 11 per cent in June. Output in other manufacturing industry went up by almost 6 per cent. This is at least partly due to the almost 7 per cent growth in the manufacture of food and beverages.
Capacity utilisation rate in manufacturing was close on 87 per cent in June. In the pulp and paper industry, capacity utilisation rate was good 91 per cent, in the metal industry almost 90 per cent and in the chemical industry nearly 81 per cent. Capacity utilisation rate in other manufacturing almost 81 per cent.
In the January to June period, industrial output increased most in the manufacture of electrical equipment, by almost 27 per cent. Output in the metal industry grew by good 15 per cent. Growth in the wood and paper industry was 4.2 per cent. In the early part of the year, output in the chemical industry went up by good 6 per cent and in other manufacturing by one and a half per cent.
