Output growth continued brisk in June
The volume of total output was 5.0 per cent greater in June 2000 than in June 1999. In May, output grew by 8.1 per cent from the previous year. In the first half of the year, the volume of total output was 4.9 per cent higher than in the January to June period in 1999. The Monthly Indicator of Total Output of Statistics Finland indicates that output went up in all main industries of the national economy.
Industrial output as calculated per working day increased by 11 per cent in June. Output increased in all main branches of industry with the exception of the textile and clothes industry. Output in construction went up by 3.9 per cent in June. Output in agriculture and forestry rose by 3.7 per cent as a result of increased fellings.
Output in transport grew by 3.5 per cent and in trade by 1.3 per cent. The volume of car trade sales was nearly 1.5 per cent lower than in June 1999. In contrast, the volumes of wholesale and retail trade sales were up by 1.7 and 1.9 per cent, respectively. Output in other services and government services increased by 2 per cent.
The Monthly Indicator of Total Output is based on thirteen monthly series on different sectors of the economy. The series are summed up by weighting.
