Output grew by 4.2 per cent in July
The volume of total output was 4.2 per cent greater in July 2000 than in July 1999. In June, output grew by 5.1 per cent from the previous year. The Monthly Indicator of Total Output of Statistics Finland indicates that output went up in all main industries of the national economy in July, except for forestry and agriculture.
Increased production of electrical products continued to boost the growth of manufacturing. The production of electrical products went up by good 37 per cent from last year's July. Industrial output as calculated per working day increased by 10.9 per cent in July. The total development of the economy was also sustained by output growth in construction, transport and trade. Output in agriculture and forestry declined by 0.8 per cent mainly as a result of the four per cent reduction in commercial fellings.
Output in construction increased by 3.2 per cent in the year to July. Output in transport grew by 3.3 per cent and in trade by 1.1 per cent. Output in other services and government services increased by 2 per cent.
The Monthly Indicator of Total Output is based on thirteen monthly series on different sectors of the economy. The series are summed up by weighting.
