Growth of total output brisk in October
The volume of total output was 8.1 per cent greater in October 2000 than in October 1999. In September, output grew by 5.5 per cent from the previous year. The Monthly Indicator of Total Output of Statistics Finland indicates that output went up in all main industries of the national economy in October.
Increased production of electrical products continued to accelerate the growth of manufacturing. The production of electrical products went up by as much as 74 per cent from last year's October. Industrial output as calculated per working day attained a record increase of 18 per cent in October. The over 12 per cent growth in the output of agriculture and forestry was mainly due to the good grain crop and the almost 9 per cent increase in commercial fellings.
Output in transport grew by slightly over 4 per cent and in trade by 2.5 per cent in October. In wholesale and retail trade output went up, while in sale of motor vehicles it fell by 5.5 per cent. Output in construction increased by 2 per cent, similarly as in other services and government services.
The Monthly Indicator of Total Output is based on thirteen monthly series on different sectors of the economy. The series are summed up by weighting.
