Growth of total output slowed down in December
The volume of total output was 3.4 per cent greater in December 2000 than in December 1999. In November 2000, output grew by 7.5 per cent from the previous year. The Monthly Indicator of Total Output of Statistics Finland indicates that, apart from agriculture and forestry and transport, output went up in all main industries of the national economy in December.
Industrial output grew by 7 per cent. Calculated per working day, the manufacture of electrical products, which in previous months had boosted the growth of industrial output, increased by only 7.5 per cent in December.
Output in trade grew by 1.5 per cent and in construction by less than one per cent from the previous year. In agriculture and forestry output contracted by 10 per cent as a result of the decrease in fellings and meat production. Output in transport also went down by 2 per cent. Output in other services and government services increased by nearly 3 per cent from December 1999.
The Monthly Indicator of Total Output is based on thirteen monthly series on different sectors of the economy. The series are summed up by weighting.
