Total output grew by 3.9 per cent in February
The volume of total output was 3.9 per cent greater in February 2001 than in February 2000. In January, output grew by 5.5 per cent from the previous year. The Monthly Indicator of Total Output of Statistics Finland indicates that, of the main branches of industry, the brisk growth of the economy was sustained by manufacturing in February.
Industrial output grew by 7 per cent. Calculated per working day, the manufacture of electrical products increased by 23 per cent in February, but the manufacture of the wood and paper industry contracted by nearly one per cent.
Output in trade grew by 2 per cent from the previous year. Output in transport went up by one per cent and construction remained unchanged from the year before. In agriculture and forestry output went down by 6 per cent, because fellings and milk and meat production were smaller than in February last year. Output in other services and government services increased by nearly 3 per cent from February 2000.
The Monthly Indicator of Total Output is based on twelve monthly series on different sectors of the economy. The series are summed up by weighting.
