Industrial output fell by 1.4 per cent in July from June

According to Statistics Finland, seasonally adjusted industrial output was 1.4 per cent lower in July than in June. In June, seasonally adjusted industrial output grew by 4.5 per cent from May.

Output grew by 5.2 per cent in July from the year before

Compared to July 2001, seasonally adjusted industrial output grew by 5.2 per cent. Over the January to July period, the volume of seasonally adjusted industrial output was of the same magnitude as over the corresponding period of last year.

Compared to July 2001, output continued to grow in several main industries. The manufacture of electrical products increased by 28 per cent. In the wood and paper industry, output went up by close on 8 per cent. Output of the chemical industry rose by nearly 4 per cent from the previous year. The greatest fall in output of 35 per cent was recorded in mining and quarrying.

Capacity utilisation rate in manufacturing was 74.5 per cent in July, which is two percentage points higher than in July 2001. In the pulp and paper industry, capacity utilisation rate was 92 per cent, in the metal industry 72 per cent and in the chemical industry good 72. Capacity utilisation rate in other manufacturing was almost 68 per cent.

Revised data for July will be published on 30 September 2002 at 8 am in connection with the industrial output data for August. Because of the method used, seasonally adjusted figures for previous months may change even if the original figures did not become revised.
