Industrial output went up by one per cent in October from September

According to Statistics Finland, seasonally adjusted industrial output was one per cent higher in October than in September. In September, seasonally adjusted industrial output fell by 0.4 per cent from August.

Output grew by 3.9 per cent in October from the year before

Compared to October 2001, seasonally adjusted industrial output grew by 3.9 per cent. Over the January to October period, seasonally adjusted industrial output was 1.2 per cent higher than over the corresponding period of last year.

In October output increased most, or by 24.5 per cent, in energy supply. Output in the wood and paper industry went up by close on 10 per cent. Good 2 per more electrical products were manufactured than in the previous year's October. In other manufacturing and in the chemical industry output rose slightly compared to 12 months back.

Capacity utilisation rate in manufacturing was 86 per cent October, which is equal to the rate in October 2001. In the pulp and paper industry, capacity utilisation rate was 91 per cent, in the metal industry 87 per cent and in the chemical industry 81 per cent. Capacity utilisation rate in other manufacturing was 80 per cent.

Revised data for October will be published on 31 December 2002 at 8 am in connection with the industrial output data for November. Because of the method used, seasonally adjusted figures for previous months may change even if the original figures did not become revised.
