Industrial output fell by 1.2 per cent in September from August
According to Statistics Finland, seasonally adjusted industrial output was 1.2 per cent lower in September 2004 than in August. The original output volume grew by nearly 6 per cent from September 2003. In January to September, the original output volume increased by 4 per cent compared with the corresponding period of last year.

In September 2004, seasonally adjusted industrial output grew by 5.2 per cent from September 2003. Output increased most, by good 19 per cent, in the manufacture of electronic and electrical equipment. The fast rate of the electronics industry pushed the whole metal industry to a growth of nearly 9 per cent. In the wood and paper industry, output went up by 8.4 per cent.

Capacity utilisation rate in manufacturing was 86 per cent in September 2004, which is half a percentage point higher than in September 2003. In the pulp and paper industry capacity utilisation rate was good 93 per cent, in the metal industry 87 per cent. Capacity utilisation rate in the chemical industry was 81 per cent and in other manufacturing 81 per cent.
Revised data for September will be published on 30 November 2004 at 8 am in connection with the industrial output data for October. Because of the method used, seasonally adjusted figures for previous months may change even if the original figures do not become revised. Seasonally adjusted figures are also adjusted for working days.
